Viewing permissions assigned to a specific user
Who is this article for?Administrators responsible for managing users.
Administration module access is required.
System security can become complex depending on how many groups you create, how these groups interact with one another, and what permissions a user has been assigned directly.
This article outlines how to identify what permissions are effective against the user and how to trace their source.
1. Viewing assigned permissions
To check effective permissions:
- Open the Administration module.
- Select Security.
- Choose People.
- Click the user record.
- Switch to the Permissions tab.
- Click View Effective....
Each permission has its own parameters to help you trace its source:
- Applied Directly means the permission has been assigned directly to the user account.
- Member of... means the permission has been assigned to a group the user is a member of.
- Has rule? being checked means a rule has been assigned to the permission.
Looking to produce a report as part of an audit or compliance activity?
Click the Print button to generate a report of all accesses the user has been granted.
