Troubleshooting missing ellipsis icon when viewing document attachments
Who is this article for?
Users who cannot see the ellipsis icon next to a filename to access non-indexed attachments.
Administrator permissions are required to update user rights.
When viewing document details, you may find the ellipsis icon (…) missing next to the filename. This prevents access to non-indexed files associated with the record.
This article explains the specific permission required to restore visibility of the attachment ellipsis icon.
1. Issue
In the desktop application, a user is unable to see or click the Ellipses icon next to the file name, even if they have standard permissions like Attachment Save & Send or Attachment Print.
Without this icon, the user cannot access non-indexed files that are part of the document details record.
2. Solution
The user must be assigned the Document Edit Attachment permission. While the name suggests "editing" rights, this permission is functionally required by the system to display the ellipsis menu for attachment management.
To assign the permission:
- Open Administration.
- Open the Security Option.
- Navigate to People or Groups.
- Navigate to Permissions.
- Locate the Document Module permissions list.
- Enable the Document Edit Attachment permission.
- Click Save.
If you wish for users to view attachments without modifying them, ensure that Document Read and Document View are enabled alongside this permission. The system will still allow them to see non-indexed files while restricting actual content modification based on their other limited rights.
