Filtering Dashboard items
Who is this article for?Users looking to build a new data Dashboard.
Dashboard Create permissions are required.
Dashboards display all information from a selected data source by default. In most cases, you will want to configure your item to focus on a subset of this data. There are two types of filtering you can apply to your data sources.
This article explains what they are and where to apply them.
1. Using standard filtering
Standard filtering uses a field, or a series of fields, related to your item in order to limit the data displayed. These fields are added to the data binding as a hidden dimension.
This type of filter is made up of a field that holds your data, an operator, and the desired value.
To add a standard filter:
- Hover over an item.
- Click the Binding icon.
- Select Data/Filtering at the bottom of the menu.
- Click Set Filter Criteria.
This will open the Filter Editor. - Click the Plus icon.
- Select Add Condition.
-
Filter will default to the first field listed in the Hidden Dimensions.
Click it to select a different field to focus on. - Select an Operator.
- Set a Value.
You can continue to additional filter criteria as required by repeating the above steps. Alternatively, tick the Advanced Mode box to open the expression editor where you can enter the expressions directly.
Confused about duplicate properties?
Managed lists are made up of several properties (a calculated path, item ID, item name, etc.). These properties may appear without context in the Filter Editor and may be similar to a property from another field.
When binding a field to your item, don't forget to scroll down and rename the field under the Options menu.
2. Using master filtering
Master filtering applies to multiple items, as long as they have the mode enabled. Any items considered 'data aware’ can be used as a filter for other items.
To enable the master filter:
- Hover over an item.
- Click the Interactivity button.
- Toggle Master Filter Mode to the appropriate option:
- None to disable master filtering for this item.
- Single to allow you to select one element in the master filter item.
- Multiple to allow you to select multiple elements in the master filter item.
To prevent items from being affected:
- Hover over an item.
- Click the Interactivity button.
- Toggle Ignore Master Filters to ON.
