Locate Record E-Mail Attachment Does Not Launch Ideagen Quality Management
Who is this article for?
Users encountering the issue locating record E-mail attachments.
No Admin permissions are required.
This article explains the issue in detail, including its causes and how to resolve it.
1. Why this issue occurs
This issue can arise due to:
- The .qpulse file not being linked to the Ideagen Quality Management client.
- The .qpulse file linked to the wrong client.
- Using a 64-bit machine with .NET 3.5/4.0.
1.1. .qpulse file not linked to Ideagen Quality Management client
To link the .qpulse file correctly:
- Open Control Panel, Default Programs then Associate a file or protocol with a program.
- Find .qpulse and click Change program.
- Browse to your Q-Pulse.exe file (usually at C:\Program Files (x86)\Gael Ltd\Q-Pulse 5).
1.2. .qpulse file linked to wrong client
With ClickOnce deployment, updates change the folder location in the user profile. If the file association points to an old Q-Pulse.exe, it may fail. To fix this, associate .qpulse with ClickOnce Application Deployment Support Library:
- Go to Control Panel, Default Programs then Associate a file or protocol with a program.
- Select .qpulse and click Change program.
- Choose ClickOnce Application Deployment Support Library from Recommended programs.
1.2.1. If this fails, try:
- Click Locate Record.qualitymanagement.
- When prompted, select an app to open the file.
- Choose Select an app on your PC.
- In File Manager, select Desktop.
- Pick the Q-Pulse application.
- This adds Q-Pulse to the default list.
- Click Always to set it as default.
1.3. Using a 64-bit machine with .NET 3.5/4.0
On 64-bit machines with 32-bit Outlook, this issue occurs because .NET 4.0 writes file associations only to the 64-bit registry, while Outlook checks the 32-bit registry, causing a mismatch.
2. Workaround
If you're using Ideagen Quality Management 5.91 or later, you can open email attachments by dragging the file from Outlook to your desktop, then double-clicking it to open in Ideagen Quality Management. Follow these steps:
- Find the record in your email.
- Drag the file from the email to your desktop.
- The file will show an Ideagen Quality Management icon.
- Double-click to open it in Ideagen Quality Management.
3. Permanent fix
To fix this issue, use Ideagen Quality Management 5.91 or later and install .NET 4.5 on affected client machines.
Download .NET 4.5 from the Microsoft .NET 4.5 download page.
