Word tags are used to display specific information from Q-Pulse document records, such as document number, document title, and document owner, within attached Word documents. To add these tags to your Word documents, you need to install the Q-Pulse Word plugin. This article explains how to add Word tags to a document and addresses common issues related to Word tags.
1. Creating Word tags in a Word document
- Open the document in Word.
- Decide where you want to add the tags in the document.
Click the Q-Pulse Office Tags option in the Q-Pulse section of Word.
- Select the tags you want to add using the Q-Pulse Office Tags button.
For example, here we have added document number, status, and owner tags in the document as shown below.
- Save the document.
- Upload the document to the Q-Pulse document record.
Save the document record.
- After saving, open the attached document in Q-Pulse.
The document will display the information from the record as shown below.
2. Common issues with Q-Pulse Word tags
Sometimes, Q-Pulse Word tags may not work as expected. This could be because the tags were not added correctly. To resolve this, check how the tags have been inserted.
- Open the document and review where and how the tags have been added.
- Verify that the tag added corresponds correctly to the field in the Q-Pulse record.
For example, if you have added a tag to show the document number, the tag should contain the correct wording as shown below.
<QPulse_DocNumber>
If the wording for "Document number" is different, the tag may not display the correct information.
- If users report that the tags are not working properly, check how the tags have been added.
- Try removing and adding the tags again in the document to see if they update correctly.
- Ensure the tags added match fields in the document record. If the document record does not have a matching field, the tags will not display as expected.
- Sometimes, document tags might not load or save properly. To fix this, save the document again and upload it to Q-Pulse to ensure it works as intended.
Occasionally, Q-Pulse tags may work properly in the Windows client but not in the web client. If this happens, copy the content into a new document, add the Q-Pulse tags again, save the document, and then upload it to the web client to check if it displays correctly.
